The large granite rock stood majestically in the dim morning sunlight. The sun rose behind it, creating an eclipse-like effect. The very sight of it was almost unearthly, especially with no one else on the road. Jorge, Moses, Anthony and I pulled up slowly to the enchanted rock entrance, we'd been up since 5:00 A.M. in order to both beat the traffic here and to watch the sun rise on the way. We paid the people up front, continued to a parking space, and proceeded on foot.
We were going to be the only ones on the rock for the next two hours, so we decided to make the best of that time. We started up the rock to the far left of the main one. We would climb up, and then transfer from rock to rock. The air we were breathing was the freshest we'd ever taken in, and by the time we got to the top of the first rock, we could really tell a difference in the way the new air felt.
